On July 21st, 2018, hundreds of our peers, adult allies, and organizational partners took to the streets of NYC to call for three clear demands:
1) total divestment of public and private funds from the fossil fuel and big agriculture industries 2) a just transition to 100% renewable energy by 2040 3) complete stop to the construction of oil pipelines and the development of fossil fuel infrastructure Special thanks to the amazing photographer Erik R. McGregor for covering the historic Zero Hour NYC Youth Climate March and Rally! Be sure to check out his documentation of our journey from Columbus Circle to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, right by UN Headquarters, as we called for a fossil fuel-free future and environmental justice. ✊✊✊

Learned a lot of valuable communication skills at our training led by Jeff Levy-Lyons, a leader in both People's Climate Movement and Jewish Climate Action Network NYC, held at Climate Reality's monthly meeting! Can’t wait to deploy our new skillset at the Zero Hour NYC Youth Climate March on July 21st!
Special thanks to Climate Reality leader Rosalind Bennett for organizing the communications skills training. Looking forward to having Climate Reality members join us in marching this summer! Couldn't make the event? The Zero Hour Movement Expands into NYC NEW YORK, NY -- This July 21st, thousands of New York students will take to the streets of Manhattan to demand immediate governmental action on climate change. The NYC march is one of many planned for this day, with sister marches being held in cities across the United States, most notably Washington, D.C. The movement has also spread across the globe to Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The diverse youth movement Zero Hour is organizing the day of peaceful protest in order to bring national attention to climate change’s impact on the rising generation of U.S. citizens. Students will exercise their First Amendment rights to achieve their goals. NYC march organizer Ilana Cohen says, “When we march on July 21st, we’ll be calling for complete institutional divestment from the fossil fuel industry, an 100% transition to renewable energy, the creation of clean energy jobs, an end to the disproportionate impact of environmental pollution on poor communities and communities of color, and a real commitment from every one of our policymakers to advancing a more sustainable future in our city, state, country, and world.” Zero Hour founder Jamie S. Margolin adds, “We’re targeting all of America’s politicians because our platform is applicable to all levels of government. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a state or national senator—you can always divest from special interests and take bold climate action.” Zero Hour affirms that environmental justice is social justice. New York citizens in socio-economically disadvantaged communities are disproportionately impacted by the dangerous effects of the city’s overconsumption of fossil fuels. New York City is currently one of the highest-waste-producing regions in the United States, and marchers hope that the city can set an example of how to transition toward a clean, ethical environmental future. Zero Hour NYC’s partners include the People’s Climate Movement, 350.org, Women’s March Youth Empower, Sierra Club, and the Alliance for Climate Education. In preparation for the NYC Youth Climate March, Zero Hour NYC will join Climate Reality at their monthly meeting on June 26th for a communications skill training led by Jeff Levy-Lyons, a leader in both the People’s Climate Movement NY and Jewish Climate Action Network NYC. You can read more about the event, “Training: Communicating your Message as a Youth Climate Activist,” in this press release and RSVP on Facebook.
